Why restful sleep is not only important for athletes
The amount of sleep required varies from individual to individual - however, as a rule of thumb, 8 hours of restful sleep per day is recommended to ensure complete regeneration. If too little sleep leads to increased tiredness and a lack of regeneration, the human organism releases more of the stress hormone cortisol, which then triggers a number of harmful processes such as a disruption in fat metabolism. As sleep is considered to be very important, appropriate nutritional supplements can also be used to significantly improve its quality.
The potential target group for this is primarily users who work in shifts, for example, and are therefore subject to a constantly varying sleep rhythm, or users who cannot normally get 8 hours of sleep per day. Furthermore, supplements for improving sleep quality are also suitable for users with increased sleep requirements, such as competitive athletes.
Ways to improve sleep quality - behaviors and supplements
In terms of behaviors, it is recommended to avoid caffeinated drinks from 6 hours before the planned night's sleep, as this gives the body enough opportunity to shut down the circulation. It is also important to get enough sleep - between 7 and 8 hours a day is recommended, and even 9 hours or more a day for competitive athletes or very physically active people. If you get used to fixed sleeping times - i.e. going to bed and getting up at the same time every day - you can also optimize your sleep quality in this way. You should also avoid getting into potential overtraining, where the body is subject to too high a level of stress, which also has a negative effect on sleep. In addition to the options mentioned above, a variety of dietary supplements can also be used to specifically improve the general quality of sleep.
Combinations of active ingredients such as ZMA, which is a combination of zinc, magnesium and vitamin B, are suitable for this. This has a positive effect on hormone and cortisol levels and helps to reduce the latter. Vitamin D, which can be obtained naturally from sunlight, is also helpful in improving sleep quality. Particularly in the winter months, many people suffer from deficiencies that manifest themselves in daytime sleepiness and a deviating sleep rhythm - taking additional vitamin D in capsule form provides a remedy here. The amino acids glycine and glutamine help with problems falling asleep and staying asleep and thus improve the all-important deep sleep phase.
