Why protein shakes are healthy and convenient
The most common protein variant on the food supplement market is whey protein, which is a whey protein. This is available in three different variants as whey concentrate, whey isolate and whey hydrolyzate. In addition to the protein powders mentioned, there are also protein supplements with a special structure, such as casein protein, which is obtained from milk protein and is digested by the human organism over a very long period of time and is therefore available to the body for longer. Due to their composition, protein powders contain a large number of essential amino acids such as leucine, isoleucine and valine, which can facilitate rapid muscle recovery after exercise. Protein shakes are particularly suitable for athletes with high physical exertion, but can also be used as a meal replacement between meals.
Using protein shakes as a dietary supplement for athletes, for losing weight or as a meal replacement
As whey protein has an excellent amino acid profile, it is particularly popular with athletes as a suitable source of protein after a training session. Above all, it is readily available and is quickly used by the body after training to regenerate muscle cells damaged during training. In the form of whey concentrate, it offers a quick, inexpensive and sufficient source of protein for amateur athletes and for losing weight, which can be consumed either with water, fruit juice or milk (particularly filling!). Other forms such as whey isolate and whey hydrolyzate are particularly suitable for competitive sports.
The protein content of isolate is generally higher than that of pure concentrate - the values here vary between 90 and 96 percent pure protein content, compared to 80 to 85 percent for concentrate. Whey hydrolyzate, on the other hand, is particularly easy to digest as the peptide chains it contains have already been broken down. As protein shakes have a high degree of satiety and at the same time have a low calorie content, they are also ideal for losing weight. Protein shakes in combination with low-fat milk, for example, can serve as a healthy and filling meal replacement that supplies the body with proteins that it does not usually convert into fat deposits. Excess protein is either converted by the body into heat (thermogenesis), used for muscle regeneration and immune processes or simply excreted again.
